The classic cotton dish cloth is knit from corner to corner. This is a great project for practicing increases and decreases, since even if they turn out to be imperfect, your dishes won't hold it against you.
The instructions that follow are for this type of cloth, but in case you want something simpler, and since the kit contains enough cotton to make at least 2 cloths, another pattern, knitted in a straight line, is also offered further down this page.
Model 1 - corner to corner
You will need:
* 50g of cotton
* a pair of 5 mm knitting needles
* a finishing needle to tuck in your threads
Cast on 4 stitches
Still knitting in garter stitch (knit stitch), for each row:
Knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit in garter stitch until the end of the row.
Repeat until you have 45 stitches, then start decreasing.
For each row:
Knit 2 stitches together, 1 yarn over, knit 2 stitches together, knit garter stitch to end of row.
Repeat until you have 4 stitches left.
Cast off the stitches, fasten the threads, and voila!
Model 2 - The textured
This reversible pattern is knitted in a straight line, but by alternating purl stitches and knit stitches, it develops a very interesting texture for both face wash and dishwashing!
Cast on 41 stitches
Knit row : Knit 3 stitches, * purl 2, knit 1 *, repeat the instructions between the ** until there are 2 stitches left, knit 2 stitches.
Purl row : Knit all the stitches.
Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures approximately 21 inches, or desired length, ending with a knit row.
Cast off the stitches, fasten the threads, and voila!
